Miistakis is again delivering a series of webinars on private land conservation in Alberta. The webinars are being delivered in conjunction with Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Continuing Education, and the University provides a certificate for completion of all three.
The webinars would be of use to anyone with an interest or role to play in private land conservation in Alberta, including Government of Alberta staff, municipalities and their associations, land trusts, community-based conservation organizations, and private landowners.
Conservation Easements in Alberta (Latest Policy and Tools)
February 4, 2-3 p.m.
Conservation easements have been used in Alberta since 1996. Learn how this innovative and flexible tool is used by private landowners, land trusts, and municipalities to conserve private land for nature or agriculture into the future.
Municipalities and Private Land Conservation
February 18, 2-3 p.m.
Develop an understanding of both the role and the opportunities for municipalities in private land conservation. Following real-world examples, understand how policy, planning and tools are integrated when municipalities promote and/or engage in conserving private land.
Using GIS in Private Land Conservation
March 4, 2-3 p.m.
Geographic Information Systems (GIS) uses computer software to analyze digital spatial data and create maps. Using GIS allows for an improved understanding of the landscape-scale implications of site-specific private land conservation decisions. Be introduced to some key concepts in GIS as the basis for further exploration of the field, and to better understand how GIS and mapping can work for your organization.
