Wildlife and Beef survey now available

posted Feb 18, 2014, 7:31 AM by Action for Agriculture
The survey will take 10 to 30 minutes to complete depending on the level of conflict producers are experiencing. We need over 2000 beef producers to participate and want to hear from those encountering problems with wildlife AND those who are not. www.beefsurvey.ca.

The Alberta Beef Producers and the Miistakis Institute are conducting the survey to create a better understanding of:
1) the costs associated with wildlife to beef producers in Alberta and,
2) the regional differences or similarities with respect to species and frequency of conflict events.

This study will help fill knowledge gaps about costs producers assume and inform the understanding of this issue from beef producers’ perspectives. Miistakis will also review literature and do an analysis of AESRD, F&W and AFSC compensation program data to supplement the overall understanding.

Alberta Beef Producers intend to use the results to help create an environment between producers and others that:
Recognizes producers as stewards of the land, who bear significant costs supporting wildlife.
Foster a cooperative approach to wildlife management.
Recognize producers' knowledge of reasonable levels of local wildlife populations.
Develop fair and sensible methods for measuring losses to wildlife.
Acknowledge the uneven distribution of wildlife costs among producers and throughout society.
Pursue creative mechanisms such as Ecological Goods and Services programs for financing stewardship and realistic loss compensation.
Thank you for taking the time to help us better understand this important issue. If you have any questions of concerns please contact Kim at the information below.
